Lauri K. Kuokkanen, 71, B.Sc. from the Helsinki Institute of Technology, Finland in 1969 majoring in the radio technology.
Doctor Tech. H.C. 2002, University of Oulu, Finland.
Division manager of Nokia Electronics radiotelephone division 1969-1976.
Founder and first CEO of numerous electronics start-up companies including Insele Oy (mechanical parts for electronics products), LK-products Oy, (now Filtronic LK Oy, RF-filters), Solitra Oy, (ADC Telecommunications Oy, now Remec Oy), Ultracom Oy, Ultraprint Oy and Ultra-Crea Oy.
Member of IEEE. Ham Radio operator since 1952.
For his achievements he has received several national and local honorary prizes, including the Nokia Research Foundation Prize 1996. Chairman of Board of Ultra-Crea Oy and Ultracom Oy. Still actively working on matters like R&D and new product development.
Since boyhood he has been interested in radio technology and worked all his career life in this field, first as a designer and later also in management. Also the business activities have been whirling around radio technology and its applications to everyday life. Those who know him and his achievements consider him as an entrepreneur and innovator which has led him to give up the managerial jobs at the early phase in the companies he has founded to "give way to people better equipped and more interested of such work", as he puts it.
